About the station
Chongqing station, locally known as the Caiyuanba area station, is the old central station. Most high-speed traffic now uses Chongqing West and Chongqing North, so this one handles conventional services and regional trains.
Chongqing is famously vertical — a city of hills, bridges and buildings that enter at street level on one side and at the eighth floor on the other. That applies to getting to the station as much as anywhere else, so allow more time than the distance suggests.
The city has several stations and they serve genuinely different directions. Reading the full Chinese name is not optional here.
Getting to and from Chongqing
Metro lines connect the station area to the rest of the city, but the walks between street, metro and station involve stairs and levels.
Taxis are abundant but the road network is complex and drivers may take long detours to cover short straight-line distances.
What catches travellers out here
- Chongqing has Chongqing station, Chongqing North and Chongqing West, serving different lines. Confirm which one your ticket names before leaving your hotel.
- The city’s navigation apps are unreliable for walking because they do not always account for level changes. Ask at your accommodation for the practical route.
