About the station
Chengdu South is a smaller, much calmer station than Chengdu East, handling intercity services toward Mianyang, Leshan and the southern suburbs. It is a useful alternative when your destination is on the intercity network rather than the main high-speed lines.
The station is modern and easy to navigate, with a single main hall. For travellers staying in the southern part of Chengdu it is often more convenient than trekking to Chengdu East.
It does not handle the long-distance high-speed services toward Chongqing or Xi’an, so check which station your ticket names.
Getting to and from Chengdu
Metro Line 1 and Line 18 serve the station, and Line 18 is the fast link to Tianfu International Airport — a practical advantage if you are flying out.
The station is close to the southern business district, so hotels in that area are within easy reach.
What catches travellers out here
- Chengdu South does not serve all the routes Chengdu East does. If your train is a long-distance G-train, double-check the station.
- Line 18 to the airport is fast but the station entrance is not obvious from the metro exit. Follow the airport signage rather than the general station signs.
