About the station

Guiyang station is the older central station on the conventional network. The high-speed hub is Guiyang North (贵阳北), which handles the Shanghai–Kunming and Guiyang–Guangzhou high-speed lines.

Guiyang is the capital of Guizhou and the practical base for Huangguoshu waterfall, the Qianxinan karst landscapes and the Miao and Dong villages of the south-east.

The city sits in a basin on the Yunnan–Guizhou plateau at about 1,100 m, so summers are notably cooler than the rest of southern China.

Getting to and from Guiyang

Metro Line 1 connects Guiyang station to the city centre and to Guiyang North, which makes the inter-station transfer easy.

Huangguoshu is about 130 km west and is usually done as a day trip by bus or arranged car.

What catches travellers out here

  • Guiyang station and Guiyang North serve different networks. If your ticket is a G-train, it is almost certainly Guiyang North.
  • Huangguoshu is at its fullest after rain, but heavy rain can also close paths. The two are related and both are common.
